Projects of Shanghai

There had been massive migration of laborers from rural areas to cities in China since 2000, which created many social issues, including the education of the children of migrant workers.

Since the children of migrant workers did not have the household registration (HuKou) they could not enroll in regular school. Only until recently did the situation improved, Chinese government enabled them to enjoy the same rights as local students to learn in school. Yet, school expense was hefty for them to pursue middle or high school education. In light of the constraints, some of the migrant workers' children left their parents behind, and returned to their hometowns to prepare for public examination, so that they might have a better chance of being accepted into university later. CRRS aimed at helping these disadvantaged children.

Migrant workers' children in high school class in Shanghai

Starting from 2007, CRRS Foundation set up a high school class in a migrant school in Shanghai, About 60 children studied the 2 year course. After sitting for the public examination, they were certified by the Shanghai municipal education commission as high school graduates. With funding from Luke Foundation of USA, CRRS was able to sponsor another class of 60 migrant workers children to finished high school. In 2009, Chan Sister Foundation and David Lam Foundation jointly committed funding to sponsor a new class of migrant workers' children.

Prospect of migrant workers' children finishing high school

Vocational training is another step forward for the migrant workers' children. CRRS arranges job specific training to these youth people, in order that they may be gainfully employed. We are pleased to  enter into  agreement with two five  star  hotels ,  to  provide  free job training  to children of  migrant  workers . Those who meet the job requirement after training will be able to become employee of   the hotels.
