Sichuan Earthquake Relief Fund (SERF)

 

Most right after the Sichuan earthquake reached us on May 12th, CRRS (Worldwide) Foundation joined with CCM in appealing to the public for funds do relief work in Sichuan.  The impact of the earthquake has touched many hearts and without much canvassing efforts, generous donations came spontaneously in.  The SERF has raised a total sum of about CAD1, 100,000 for the project.  The amount of CAD$350,207.07 has been matched by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) for the Sichuan Earthquake Relief Fund.  CRRS and CCM organized a joint committee to monitor the proper use of donations, ensuring that every penny would be spent on the victims of the earthquake and the rebuilding of the disaster area.  

        

 

Projects in Process:

1. Support 1,000 primary students living expenses for one year.  

2. Set up "Hope Centre" in one county in reach out to orphans, single-parent children   and to provide a place for activities for them with counseling service available and to render other assistance to the attendants of this centre.

3. Foundation had financed the printing cost of 30,000 books which were used for training teachers to provide counseling service to students. In addition, 5,000 Teddy Bears were giving out to complement the books in the restoration process.

 

4. We have agreed to help one orphanage (小羊兒童之家) to rebuild its facilities so that they can offer services to accommodate more orphans.

 

5. We helped restore two computer laboratories with 25 computers each and the set up of multimedia facilities in a secondary school and two primary schools.

 

6. Support "Hong Kong Polytechnic University" Sichuan Project In response to meet the psychosocial developmental needs of earthquake affected school-age children and adolescents in Sichuan. "Hong Kong Polytechnic University" initiated a long-term project that provide a professional social work services to seven schools to enhance the physical, psychological, and social well being and resilience of the affected students.

 

  

7. Purchase approximate 4,000 winter jackets for students and elders in grave needs.

 8. We pay for the expenses of the artificial limbs for a dance teacher Liao zhi who has lost her legs in the earthquake. 

 

 

 

 Future Work Plan

1. Continue exploring the opportunity of school reconstruction project.

2. Work on the idea of establishing centralized "Social Workers' Depots" in the field.

3. Enhance the cooperation with Hong Kong Polytechnic University in the Development and placement of Social workers in schools in Sichuan.
