Project of Guangxi
It has been 6 years ever since CRRS ( Worldwide )Foundation started the education sponsorship and poverty alleviation projects in Guangxi rural area. In 2003, 200 teachers were sponsored to professional development on teaching. The project was later modified and expanded to benefit over 4,000 people, across China and to other countries. The expansion of sponsorship was not limited to teachers but also to students alike. Patrons commitment and volunteers participation grew along the way. We are pleased to see changes in the life of the people and hope amidst the gloomy environment they face.
CRRS (Worldwide) Foundation provided education funding to six counties, including ZhiYuen, LungSheng, YangShuo, ChongSheng, RongShui and WuXuen in the last 6 years. Over the years, over 2 million RMB Yuan had been injected into Guangxi‘s projects. The Foundation provided infrastructural resource through building schools and tangible education supplies.
The funding enabled 1,107 poverty stricken teachers to finish their education, 2,192 poor students to continue enrollment in different schools , and around 200 students being accepted by universities. In 2009, an additional 400 students and 20 undergraduates received subsidies to continue their education.

Future Directions of Projects in Guangxi
CRRS Foundation is pleased to witness the improvement in living standard and experienced the rapid economic development in China. This is evidenced by YangShuo County in Guangxi, in which the Foundation sponsored various projects. The county has improved economically and is alleviated from abject poverty.
Throughout the years, ministry of education in China also invested significantly on education, and put priority in improving the quality of education. In 2006, Chinese government amended its Law on Compulsory Education to exempt all school charges for students. This was first adopted in rural areas of the western outskirts of the country in 2006 and nationwide in 2007.
Indeed, Guangxi ethnic autonomous region was the first of the five regions to pass the national thresholds of two basic benchmarks, that is, illiteracy elimination among youth and 9-year compulsory education. The region is able to implement 9 years of free education ever since.
In light of this, the Guangxi projects will be adjusted to adopt a two throng approach. On one hand, the Foundation will help poor primary students in rural area to enroll in school, and help senior-high students to continue their education, on the other hand, attention will be focused on senior-high students in 2 state designated poor counties, namely, Rong Shui and Lung Sheng. Funding will be put into computer skill development and English language training among students, so that they will learn not only curriculum subjects, but also job ready skills to enhance their potential in labour market.

Student Sponsorship Program
Notwithstanding the introduction of 9-year compulsory education by Chinese government, CRRS strives to encourage impoverished students in rural areas to enroll in schools. As the students face multiple financial barriers, including school supplies expense, boarding fee, transportation fee, which forbid them from attending school, the student Sponsorship program aims to pay up various expenses for the poor students.

Course completion and professional development for teachers
For many years, CRRS sponsored teachers to complete their education with proven results. The principal and deputy principal of the Rong-Shui Second High School was a perfect example of the project's success. With their enhanced knowledge and qualification, the principal and the deputy principal could use their newly acquired teaching skills and made an impact on the students.
In the future, the county's education commission will establish a higher standard on the qualification of teachers and provide more opportunities for selected teachers to study aboard, CRRS will respectively wind down the provision of sponsorship in this area. In fact, future direction of the project will focus on the improvement of specific education training, which will need constant communication and close coordination with the local education commission.
Targeted funding: Resource centre in the Rong Shui Second High School
Students in poverty stricken Guangxi area need not only academic achievement, but also need to learn job ready skills to develop personal potentials.
The phrase one development of the resource centre started in 2007, 60 computer units were installed, in the second phrase, an additional 30 units were introduced, together with a language laboratory which was one of a kind in Guangxi. The instrument greatly improved students' language learning ability, and facilitated better language training for teachers. The project set as a model for computer assisted learning, with rippling effect on the county's future education structure as a whole.

Project Shine - ESL training
The project was introduced in 2008. A group of oversea youths travelled to Rong-Shui. They offered English language teaching in schools in rural area. The project provided an English learning and cultural exchange platform for youths in rural area and youth from North America. Oversea youth could also get a firsthand experience in life in impoverished rural China.
Undergraduates in Nanning University-Give back to the community campaign
In summer of 2008, CRRS initiated the "Give back to the community campaign" in Nanning city. CRRS-sponsored undergraduates in Nanning University returned to their hometown villages to serve the young people there. The program enriched the local students with extracurricular activities and knowledge of the outside world. On the other hand, the undergraduates contributed their much needed service to their hometowns while earned living expense for their coming university years. That was a practical way to put their skills at work and gained working experience.
Migrant workers education assistance program in Shanghai
There had been massive migration of laborers from rural areas to cities in China since 2000, which created many social issues, including the education of the children of migrant workers.
Since the children of migrant workers did not have the household registration (HuKou) they could not enroll in regular school. Only until recently did the situation improved, Chinese government enabled them to enjoy the same rights as local students to learn in school. Yet, school expense was hefty for them to pursue middle or high school education. In light of the constraints, some of the migrant workers' children left their parents behind, and returned to their hometowns to prepare for public examination, so that they might have a better chance of being accepted into university later. CRRS aimed at helping these disadvantaged children.
